New Bison Herd

Scottish Bison move over the border to Wales

Corwen has become the home of 12 more new bison after Rhug Estate Organic Farm decided to increase its herd.

Rhug Estate Organic Farm has invested in the North American bison to increase the size of it’s existing herd. Amongst the new arrivals is a fully mature five year old bull who is enormous. He will now become the dominant bull in the herd.

The herd traveled down from Scotland and arrived on the farm, which is situated just off the A5 2 miles west of Corwen, last week 16th May 2007, but were reluctant to come off the wagon and see their new home.

Lord Newborough, from Rhug Estate, said: “Stress is the Bisons worst enemy having discussed the problem with the farm manager, Gareth Jones it was decided to leave them to their own devices and sure enough four hours later they decided to get out on there own accord!”

“Since them they have settled down well, in fact, the only problem that remains is a language barrier. The Welsh Bison can’t understand their new Scottish friends at all.”

Visitors to Rhug should not be surprised to see some orange coloured baby bison calves that are due to be born within the next month. The bison can be seen on the farm tours due to start on the 1st July or before then the can be clearly viewed from the Bison walk.
