Arable
200 acres of combinable crops are grown each year on the farm, namely triticale and oats, these crops provide winter nutrition for our beef herd and flock of sheep. These crops are particularly suited to our loam soil and climate and the organic system of production.
100 acres of stubble turnips are grown to fatten our lambs, meaning we have a year round supply of lamb for our shop. We drill the turnip crop into soil immediately following the harvesting of our oats and wheat; this means there is no need to plough the field, and nutrient loss from the soil is reduced.
Who works on the arable part of the farm?
John Uren & Keith Jones John and Keith would like to say they do the work! They are the tractor drivers who grow the cereals and grasses for the livestock to eat in the winter months.
